If navigation is one of your top priorities, you must be wondering if the N900 would do you any good in finding you way around the town. Guess what, you are in luck, for Ovi Maps onboard the N900 is one of the best navigation apps that you can see on any mobile platform today.
For users of symbian phones, Ovi Maps needs no introduction for Ovi Maps has been the default navigaiton app on symbian smartphone for over a year now (It was called Nokia maps initially and then rechristened to Ovi Maps). It was one of the first navigation apps to come up with the concept of downloadable maps on phones, drastically reducing the data consumption on compatible phones. The navigation app has been a great success on the symbian platform, and now debuts on the Maemo platform with the N900. Let’s now see how it pans out for my routine navigation needs. A lot has been talked about the browser capabilities of the Maemo browser on N900 and that of its closest rival, Safari on the iPhone. Being an iPhone user myself, I gotta say that it accounts for one of the smoothest mobile browsing experiences, but the N900 browser’s capability to render the pages in desktop like resolution takes the competition to the next level, all by itself.
To zero in on a winner, I put them through several tests and threw in HTC Hero, which according to me is the best Android phone in market (as of now) and HTC G1, the legendary Google phone which gave the world the first feel of Android. Eager to know who is the winner? Hit on the read button to find out. Read the rest of this entry »
With a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens onboard the N900, am really digging the imaging capabilities of this beast. What is the next logical step after taking amazing photos? To share them with the world right? Atleast that’s what I do after I frame a masterpiece (kidding, almost anything that I capture). Thats where Maemo 5’s sharing feature comes into play and am really amazed at the simplicity of it.
Having played around with Nokia 5800, N97 and iPhone, I have gotta say, image sharing has never been as easy and intuitive as on the N900. Hit on the jump button to see what makes me say so. Read the rest of this entry »
In case you were wondering where I disappeared after promising some hands on experience of N900, I can only say that people are really getting restless to get their hands on a N900. I almost got mugged walking around the city, toying around with N900. These are the desperate times and no am not talking about the economic recession or the recent market crunch in Dubai but am referring to the severe market shortage of Nokia N900s.
Not to mention the canceling of pre-0rders from Amazon, Dell, NewEgg and other online dealers, N900 enthusiasts are just losing their patience and I got some first hand experience of the same when I was mobbed this weekend, after being spotted with N900. However, I put up a brave fight and managed to keep the N900 with me but only after letting my attackers have some hands-on feel of the device. Yeah, I was just kidding about being mugged, my attackers just wanted some first hand experience of the device. I was traveling on work over the weekend and hence was not able to update the blog here. Anyway having missed out on the black Friday, I realised that a lot of N900 buzz has been doing the rounds, which by now you should have already read. So, I thought I will cover something which no other N900 blog has touched upon so far- Data backup and Recovery on N900. Read the rest of this entry »
If you have been following the blog here you would have noticed that I mentioned that the N900 would ship with Skype built-in and now I have got more evidence to back up my claim. Who is the source? The folks from Skype themselves. Sit back and enjoy the 2 min tour below for more info on skype integration within the N900 and yeah overlook that last part where Mark says you can buy a N900 off the shelf, not yet guys!
Embedding not working for God knows what reason. Check the demo video at Skype’s official website here
Thats right, Skype support out of the box, no installing apps or anything! Beat that iPhone or Droid or whatever smartphone you wanna put against it!
Multi-tasking is something I am looking forward to on my soon to arrive N900. When it comes to multi-tasking on smartphones there are hardly any good devices in the market today. iPhone, which is considered as the number 1 smartphone by many doesn’t support multitasking (not until you jailbreak it) and the android devices are no good either.
While Nokia devices (their smartphones) have always been known for their multi-tasking capabilities, most of their devices fail miserably when simultaneously running five or more memory intensive applications. Can Nokia turn the tide the other way around with their latest flagship device? Read on to find out. Read the rest of this entry »

No, Microsoft didn’t release a mobile version of their top selling Office suite on the Maemo platform but looks like the pre-loaded office suite on the N900 is one of the most advanced we have seen so far on a mobile device.
While not much has been talked about the office capabilities of the latest Nokia flagship device, the latest YouTube clip doing the rounds among the N900 community, shows a demonstration of the office suite pre-loaded on the N900.
While the E-series and the N 97 from Nokia shipped in with QuickOffice pre-loaded, the developer of the office snatuite of the N900 is not yet known but the suite looks promising nevertheless. Hit on the read button to check out the office suite on N900. Read the rest of this entry »

Nokia’s latest flagship device, the N900 is a revolutionary device for it has now become difficult to draw a clear line between mobile computer and a phone. While much has been talked about its computing capabilities, very little is known of its video capability, that is until now.
The latest video doing the rounds among the N900 fanboys, is the video sample of N900 showing its fixed focusing capabilities. After seeing the video sample, I gotta say that not only is the N900 a mobile computer but also an accomplished cam-corder. Hit on the jump button to see what makes us say that. Mozilla have just released the beta 4 version of Fennec, better known as Firefox for Mobile for the upcoming Maemo platform. N900 being the sole device in this platform was the obvious choice for demo and guess what, Jay Sullivan, the VP of mobile browser division of Mozilla, himself has demoed the browser very much on a N900.
The latest mobile browser from Mozilla is one of the most revolutionary applications for mobile platforms. Being based on the latest Firefox engine (the same that powers the yet to be released Firefox 3.6), the mobile browser moves a step closer to the capabilities of desktop browsers. Infact the present version of the browser is the first mobile browser to incorporate support for plugins and add-ons. Read the rest of this entry »
Who says you gotta be a music artist to perform gigs? The latest gadget to hit the town, the Nokia N900 is nothing short of a rockstar when it comes to its entertainment capabilities, and guess what, it has a couple of gigs of its own! Music and Video capabilities aside, the TV out port of this wonder gadget is being maxed out by the handful of reviewers, who have been fortunate enough to get their hands on a preview set.
With gaming on phones becoming the latest fad, the N900 is taking mobile gaming to places where we dare say there is no competition at this juncture of time. Obviously we are referring to N900 gaming on humongous LCD panels that takes the centerstage in your living rooms. Check out the sample videos (or gigs!) after the break.
