FoursquareFoursquare! What the heck is Foursquare? That’s exactly the same question I asked myself, when I first read about it at Nokia Experts. Apparently Matt from NE has been testing the beta version of the app and has been given the thumbs up from the developers to spill some info on the app, ahead of its release.

So what is this Foursquare all about? Well its a cross-breed between an augmented reality and social networking apps. Confused? Get it clarified, after the break though. Read the rest of this entry »

joikuspot-logoHave a netbook or laptop that’s as inseparable to you as your limbss and feet? You would probably need an ad-hoc internet connections as well to get your work done on the go. Now we all know that we can use the N900 to tether via bluetooth or USB connection but that’s limiting to only one device per N900. Now, if you need to connect more than one device simultaneously to the web, you can use your N900 as an ad-hoc wi-fi router as well, not yet but very soon as JoikuSpot, the award winning application is headed to the Maemo 5 bandwagon soon. What exactly does this app do? Find out after the break. Read the rest of this entry »

N900-movies-300x1254Well, those are not my words but of John of Tehkseven.net, who has been very active in YouTube off late, with his amazingly hilarious gigs on N900. He is definitely one of the funniest gadget guys you can find on the web out there and if you haven’t checked his YouTube videos on N900, you should straight away head there, starting from the Stress tests on N900.

Now, if you dare to put your N900 to such acts, go ahead and let us know what happened to them but I would definitely refrain some such tests and will be more than happy to just watch someone else’s N900 take the beating! Anyway, coming back to this post, John has done a video review of the default music player of the N900 and yeah he covers most of the things I had to say about the player . So, hit that jump button to say what John has to say about default music player on N900 and couple of my observations towards the end. Read the rest of this entry »

Last.fm Lands on N900, Courtesy-Vagalume

vagalume-n900If you were to ask me what’s one thing I miss badly on the N900, I would have no second thoughts in that, it would definitely be lack of Last.fm app. Well, looks like I am not the only one complaining about it for Vagalume have now launched v0.8 their app , which is now compatible on N900.

For a N810 user, Vagalume would probably need no introduction but unlike most of the other last.fm apps on the N810, Vagalume has extended its support to Maemo 5 and hence N900. Further with Libre.fm support, you can now stream other Last.fm compatible server streams.

Now let me throw some light on the new features of Vagalume:

  • Implemented the Last.fm Web Services API v2.0
  • Support for Libre.fm and other Last.fm-compatible services
  • Support for Maemo 5 (Nokia N900)
  • New logo and other UI changes
  • Sleep timer (i.e. stop playback after X minutes)
  • New configuration setting to download free tracks automaticallyvagalume-logo

And yeah, I almost forgot to mention about the new icon designed by Otto Krüja. At first glance, I thought it was the new logo for Pixelpipe but later I realised it was the new icon for Vagalume. It blends in well with other icons in the N900 menu and I am now waiting for the next update of Vagalume, which should fix the UI which is presently not optimized for Maemo 5/N900.

twitter-logoBeing a Twitter addict, a powerful twitter client is a must have for me, be it on my desktop/notebook or my smartphone. Being an iPhone user, I am more than amazed by the capabilities of Twitter apps like Tweetdeck and Twitterific and was expecting some app with similar capabilities on the N900.

Earlier, I talked about Hahlo4, a web based app which offers a ton of features directly from the browser, any browser, including the one you are reading this post from. However, back then I didn’t have a N900 at my disposal and it was no first hand experience. Now am armed with an N900 and wasting no time, I pitch Hahlo and Mauku, a micro-blogging app available in the default Maemo repository for a Twitter showdown. Let’s see who takes the crown of the best twitter app on N900, after the break though. Read the rest of this entry »

Weoffset-1You must be wondering how on earth can N900ers can save the world, for we are no Nathan Petrellis and in case you were wondering there is no cute cheer-leader to save either! Enough of fooling around now, lets get to business for the N900 app am reviewing today addresses a very serious concern- Carbon Emissions.

You probably would have heard and or read about Global Warming and its scary after-effects, Climate Change being the most prominent one. Unless you spend the last couple of years hiding under a rock, you would have also heard of ex US Vice-President Al-Gore’s documentary on this burning topic- “An Inconvenient Truth”.  That should give you a crash-course on global warming and carbon emissions and the like. Well, now you must be asking me, “Whats this gotta do with my N900?” Well, let me tell you as a N900er you can do your bit to offset your CO2 emissions. FlickrWith a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens onboard the N900, am really digging the imaging capabilities of this beast. What is the next logical step after taking amazing photos? To share them with the world right? Atleast that’s what I do after I frame a masterpiece (kidding, almost anything that I capture). Thats where Maemo 5’s sharing feature comes into play and am really amazed at the simplicity of it.

Having played around with Nokia 5800, N97 and iPhone, I have gotta say, image sharing has never been as easy and intuitive as on the N900.  Hit on the jump button to see what makes me say so. Read the rest of this entry »

Google Apps on N900

Posted on : 15-11-2009 | By : bltzkri3g | In : Nokia N900 Applications

After deciding on my must havenokia-n-900 list of apps for my soon to arrive N900, it was time to see if I will be able to move my internet lifestyle from my laptop/desktop to the wonder device-N900. As with most of the web geeks today, Google apps are an integral part of my life and I can’t even imagine my life without it. So naturally, getting Google apps working on the N900 is a first step towards my web migration to the N900.

Knowing for a fact that the N900 browser comes with full flash support and the upcoming Firefox browser for the N900 looking very promising with full flash support among other things, YouTube was a no brainer but getting other things working on the N900, was something I was looking forward to. Can I or can I not make the N900 my ultimate tool of choice for accessing the web? Let’s find out, after the break though. Read the rest of this entry »

N900-Apps

Now that N900 has started shipping, I thought it was time to start scouting the web for N900 apps, so that I know exactly what to do when my device arrives at my doorstep (which am hoping is pretty soon!)

From my previous experiences with a Nokia device, I headed straight to the ovi store (the mecca of apps for Nokia devices) to see if I can find any apps for the N900 but to my utter disappointment the Maemo version of the store is not yet live, so there goes the best source for apps. Then, I turned to the omniscient, the GOOGLE and guess what I discovered? Just the apps I was looking for! Details and short video after the break. Read the rest of this entry »
