Our friends at Nokia have been keeping up with the good work as evident from the third firmware update for our dear N900s. The fact that the third update comes just a month after the second update goes on to show the commitment from our friends in Espoo in improving the already impressive feature set of the device.
While the official changelog is not out yet, it is highly recommended that you update the firmware as firmware updates generally contain bug fixes and optimizations necessary for functioning of device software. Find out how to update, after the break. Read the rest of this entry »
Looks like the folks at Espoo took my previous post on N900 rather too seriously and are now looking to set things straight with the first firmware update for the N900 (ofcourse, am kidding! The firmware release must have been scheduled weeks before I even thought about my review post).
Nokia have delivered on their promise this time around by sticking to what they claimed in all their N900 ad campaigns. Clutter free (read cable free) Over The Air (OTA) firmware update for N900s in all the regions it has been released so far. The update is rather minor with hardly any noticeable changes and with the Nokia Conversations post claiming the firmware to tighten some nuts and bolts for the Ovi store to fall in place as and when its released (most possibly within the next week).
How to update?
You would have probably seen the exclamatory symbol informing on the available update for your firmware, provided you have connected to the web from your N900 in the last 8-10 hours. If you haven’t try connecting to the web and you should see the notification.
What’s New?
Unfortunately there is nothing to fill in this section for neither me nor any of the other N900ers who have updated to the latest firmware have seen any noticeable additions or improvements on our N900s so far. So whatever the update was, it was mostly related to setting up the OS for the eventual release of Ovi store for Maemo, which is expected to go live anytime from now. So portait mode’s gotta wait till the next firmware update.
It may have been just a couple of days since the N900 was officially released in the US and Italy, but that’s not stopping Nokia from releasing a firmware update to v1.2009.42.11. The 165 MB update is presently available only over NSU and is expected to be made available over OTA in near future.
While there has been no official changelog on the new firmware update yet, early adopters of N900 have reported improved battery life among other tweaks. If you happen to be toying around with a N900, you would probably want to get this latest firmware update from Nokia. There is a catch though: contrary to the recent firmware upgrades from Nokia on their other smartphones, the update to v1.2009.42.11 is known to get rid of all the previous installed applications on N900s. User added files like photos and media files are known to be restored though. So N900ers make sure you backup your devices, before heading to NSU for the update and yeah do drop us a line here and help us compile a changelog for v1.2009.42.11.
If you check here: http://www.btusers.com.ar/nan/nokia/?productsid=1090319976
You will be able to get the versions available, the product codes form them and you may download the firmware also alternatively if NSU doesn’t work…
Hope you enjoy it!
