Are you still looking for a simple way to tweet from your N900? Yeah I know there is Mauku and there is always the Twitter website but didn’t I already talk about the limitations of these apps/services earlier? Hahlo, is one great web app for tweeting from N900 and if you happen to dislike Hahlo just for aesthetics or whatever the reason be, you now have a ray of hope. Enter Twitter plugin for Conversations and Contacts which can let N900ers tweet directly from the VoIP/IM window of the Maemo 5 OS. Looks super cool right? Now that you have got a fair idea of what the plugin will add on to your N900s, let me start by listing some of the basic features of the plugin:

1. Integration of Twitter into Contacts and Conversations (like you didn’t already figured it out from the title!)
2. Twitter Search

What it lacks from in Twitter functionality:

1. Twitter specific features like: RT, DM etc
2. Integrated add-ons like shortening of URLs and image loading services

The plugin does have a way around the first limitation in a way if you enable “Add URL link to each tweet” by giving an option to users to access the tweet via a browser for twitter functions like RT, DM etc. Another handy feature is the “Retrieve Tweets History After Login”, which tracks the tweets so that the conversations window looks like a chat conversation.

While the plugin is still nowhere close to some of the popular twitter apps like Tweetdeck and Twitterific available on both mobile and desktop versions, its integration to Maemo 5’s Conversations and Contacts apps make it a good alternative to tweeting from say  Mauku or the twitter website. However, I would still stick by Hahlo or Dabr for tweeting from my N900.
